What is Libre Infancia?
Libre Infancia is a ministry of social assistance that has the objective of establishing a positive childhood for Guatemala’s poorest children. A childhood free from alcoholism, drugs, extreme poverty and illiteracy. Libre Infancia is a dream which, through much effort, time and courage has become a reality that is tangible and concrete. As a result, Libre Infancia has witnessed incredible transformations in many children’s lives.
How was Libre Infancia created?
In 1992, God gave a vision to the Rev. Otto Álvarez. He was deeply saddened by the environment of extreme poverty of the guajeros in Zone 3 of Guatemala City. It was out of this sadness that Rev. Otto decided to create Libre Infancia. Zone 3 is an area of Guatemala City with very limited resources where the people are especially vulnerable. Rev. Otto believed that this area of great need had great opportunity for the demonstration of God’s love. The children of Zone 3 could be helped. Their childhood did not have to a bleak. They could dream of a better future!
How was Libre Infancia finalized?
In 1995, Rev. Otto Álvarez felt the call of God to care for the people of Guatemala’s garbage dump. He then presented his vision to a group of professionals who constructed an Association which initially provided food and clothes to the families of the sector.
Where does Libre Infancia focus its aid?
Libre Infancia focuses its attention on the children that live and work in the dump in Zone 3. Libre Infancia provides the tools and the resources that the children require for a better quality of life. It is Libre Infancia’s hope and prayer that the children, themselves, will put an end to this cycle of poverty and make their dreams a reality.
Who are the people that make up the board of directors of this ministry?
The board of directors is compromised of people who have the objective of supporting Libre Infancia so that it may continue to help as many people as possible. They are all professionals who work hard to keep Libre Infancia running smoothly with transparency throughout its departments.
