Accustomed to working in chronic conditions of sun, rain, dust, odours, infesting pests and predators, the guajero adults and children prefer to ignore the effects that these working conditions are having on the health and development. "What does not kill is fattening" became a slogan to justify the eating of the rubbish to survive. Health is virtually absent from their thoughts.
That is why Libre Infancia supports preventive health programs and workshops, alongside dental and eye care. The children in our programs are constantly being evaluated by paediatricians.
